Coinage of the Realms

Table of Contents | Index

While there is a fairly common weight and standard quality of coins across most of the neighboring kingdoms, each Kingdom will often stamp the local currency to allow additional taxes or exchange rates for foreign coins. Some coinage remains from the older kingdoms and empires. These coins are often sought after by collectors and scholars and may be worth more than their weight would normally garner.

Trade bars are larger quantities of metal not generally used in common transactions. They are more often used in larger scale merchant transactions and deals between craftsmen. The bars are usually stamped with the seal of the kingdom and a trademark for the smelter that purified the metal from the ore. While a trade bar has a standard value set by the kingdom, their worth can fluctuate some based on the demand for raw materials. These changes are much slower to develop in the coins. It is considered ill form and potentially illegal to convert coins into raw materials.
